Misguided Shepherds

Note: We have posted this response to Dr. David Jeremiah on our website out of necessity when Turning Point went public with Dr. Jeremiah's letter to us.

Subject: RE: From David Jeremiah

David,

As a minister of the gospel, having been given this privilege and responsibility from the Lord, you should be most concerned that any public actions you take would do nothing but glorify the Lord and edify the dear body of Christ, much of whom have trusted you. But rather you seem more concerned to defend a man (and your joining together with him) who just a few weeks ago endorsed a book that is a blatant anti-Christian book written by Vijay Eswaran. Of that book, Blanchard said: " This book is a wonderful guide on how to enter the realm of silence and draw closer to God."

These are not the words of a man who endorsed countless books more for the author than for the ideas, as you suggested. How can you even say that? I wish you would stop and listen to yourself because I do not think you would recognize the David Jeremiah that used to be. I do not believe that you have taken a serious look at the facts we have presented. I believe you are more concerned with defending yourself than humbly repenting. Do you really believe that God will not send great delusion your way for losing your love for truth? (II Thessalonians 2:10, 11) Do not be so confident. It is only by the grace of God that any of us can walk in truth.

You have misrepresented the church, and it makes me, along with many others, weep with broken hearts. You think that by asking Ken Blanchard questions and him giving you satisfactory, "Christian" answers that this should be enough to stop the criticisms? That is like asking the wolf if he is really going to hurt the sheep. He says, "no, of course not," as the blood of the sheep is dripping down from his teeth.  If Ken Blanchard is indeed a Christian, as he claims, he should be promoting the truth of the gospel alone. But rather he promotes the heretical New Age and thus has misled thousands, if not millions away, from the Cross; and for this, you and he should both be ashamed of yourselves.

Please do not write back to me to tell me more of the same things you have already said. It is the body of Christ you should be addressing. We have merely presented facts and have let the body decide how to interpret these things. If you are receiving emails and phone calls, do not blame us. You are the one who is associating yourself with a man who said that the Hoffman Quadrinity Process made his "spirituality come alive." I have heard you preach before, and I thought when I heard you, "This man preaches with the power of God." David Jeremiah, what has happened to you? When did you start compromising and stop seeing?

Contemplative Spirituality: A belief system that uses ancient mystical practices to induce altered states of consciousness (the silence) and is rooted in mysticism and the occult but often wrapped in Christian terminology. The premise of contemplative spirituality is pantheistic (God is all) and panentheistic (God is in all). Common terms used for this movement are "spiritual formation," "the silence," "the stillness," "ancient-wisdom," "spiritual disciplines," and many others.

Spiritual Formation: A movement that has provided a platform and a channel through which contemplative prayer is entering the church. Find spiritual formation being used, and in nearly every case you will find contemplative spirituality. In fact, contemplative spirituality is the heartbeat of the spiritual formation movement.
