"Warren predicts that fundamentalism, of all varieties,
will be 'one of the big enemies of the 21st century.'
'Muslim fundamentalism, Christian fundamentalism, Jewish
fundamentalism, secular fundamentalism - they're all motivated
by fear. Fear of each other.'"
What
does Rick Warren define Christian Fundamentalism to be?
In a May
2005 interview between Rick Warren and the Pew Forum
on Religion, Warren stated:
"Today there really aren't that many
Fundamentalists left; I don't know if you know that or
not, but they are such a minority; there aren't that many
Fundamentalists left in America ... Now the word 'fundamentalist'
actually comes from a document in the 1920s called the Five Fundamentals of the Faith. And it is a very legalistic,
narrow view of Christianity." Quote by Rick Warren,
May 2005
Contemplative Spirituality: A belief system that
uses ancient mystical practices to induce altered states of consciousness
(the silence) and is rooted in mysticism and the occult but often wrapped
in Christian terminology. The premise of contemplative spirituality
is pantheistic (God is all) and panentheistic (God is in all). Common
terms used for this movement are "spiritual formation," "the
silence," "the stillness," "ancient-wisdom,"
"spiritual disciplines," and many others.
"Nor
is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name [Jesus
Christ] under heaven
given among men by which we must be saved." Acts 4: 12
